Ariel kitty
My Little Miss Impertinent is finally showing her age. She is 16 years old, and has been with me since she was a rescued feral piece of fluff that could fit in the palm of my hand and we lived in a studio apartment in Venice Beach. She has flown cross country to New Orleans and lived with me there for three months when I took family leave to take care of my Mom when she was first fighting cancer. She's driven cross country with me twice - first from LA to New Orleans, then from New Orleans to Portland. We have moved together at least 13 times. This last time into what is our home. Completely ours.
And on Halloween she collapsed. Lost control of her legs and fell over. When I took her to the vet's that same day, it turns out the diagnosis is old age, dehydration and constipation. Poor thing. So she got subcutaneous fluids, and they sent us home with a drip and some needles to keep giving her fluids at home. She's also getting lactulose, and I am giving her high fat kitty supplement whenever I can get her to take it from me.
I have slept with her in the guest bedroom ever since her collapse (my new bed is too high for her, and the guest bedroom is all hers.) In the past two days she's started taking more of an interest in her wet food, which is a big improvement. She tends to love dry kibble more than any wet food, and that can lead to dehydration and constipation in older kitties.
She is still feisty. And I am not ready for her to leave me yet. She can be a pain in the ass, and grumpy, and has a big personality for such a little kitty, but she's my unique pain in the ass and I love her and want her to stick around a little longer. So I'd appreciate it if anyone wants to send some good thoughts her way.
